Beach Time: Hot, Humid and Heavenly

August 11, 2023

Just in case you’ve been wondering if I’m still around, I thought I should write something. In short, I’ve been on vacation. I guess I should’ve let you know so you weren’t thinking I’d gone to join Jud. Well, back to my explanation. This wasn’t just any old vacation. Our whole family made it to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Someone once said,”There’s no such thing as fun for the WHOLE family.” Well, I disagree after our days together.

The beach house we booked hasn’t changed from the time we first rented it more than 25 years ago, except they’ve added air conditioning. Though some still chose to sleep out on the porch. The rocking chairs rarely sat empty. The porch hammock sagged with Grands. Hot, humid and heavenly to be at the beach together.

Since I’m still on beach time, S L O W, I’ll write more at another time.

Until then, I share one of my favorite quotes set on a coaster:

“I didn’t mean to push all your buttons. I was just looking for mute.”

I love this post – although I love all your posts Jan. They make me smile, sometimes giggle out loud, and sometimes bring a tear to my eyes.

This sounds so like so much fun! Steve and I have been talking about doing a family vacation, but need to have someplace to go. It must be wonderful since you’ve now rented it for 25 years in a row!

How did you find the house that you rent? If you’d be willing to share the house that you do rent, I would be so grateful. Not that we would all be together…but that Steve and I could look into renting this house as well.

Enjoy the rest of your time with your lives!

Woohoo! How fun to see your name pop up, Ruthie. I didn’t know you read this blog. I’ll give you information in email, not on this post. Actually, I was 16 when we first went to Wrightsville Beach.. We’d just moved from Georgia to NC. My daddy rented a small place on the Sound, not the ocean side. As a result, I learned to water ski that summer So fun. We went every year thereafter., but not to that place so we could be on the ocean side. But close to 30 ago, we began renting this place with a few years missed for one reason or another. It’s very OLD, an original. NOT fancy. Sleeps 14 inside plus 3 beds on the porch. Not comfy beds but the kids love it out there. Hope it or something else works for you. Hugs to you and Steve and your family.

So great to hear you had a good time! Can’t wait to hear about your visit. Just wish I could have seen all of you and meets your grands. Please let me know when any of you head this way again. Glad you’re home safe.

Thanks, dear Niffy. We had a great time. Such fun to be back in No-Care. Next time we’re at the beach, we’ll let you know and maybe you can join us and rock away on the porch or swing in the hammock. Sweet tea and fresh lemon will be handy. Love to you and your family.

So good to get away, leave computers behind and limit technology. Just enjoy each other and the beauty of God’s creation, and eat favorite foods southern style.

    Dear Jan,
Your final quote reminds me of my favorite from Erma Bombeck: “Mother knew how to push all of his buttons; she should, she installed them.” Have a great time!

Hah! That’s a good one. I loved reading Erma Bombeck’s books and her posts in the newspaper. I have a file of her wit and wisdom. Great to hear from you, dear Dan..

Welcome home! Fun to hear about your time away in my home state. I hope you are still water skiing! :). I’d not heard NC called No Care before – that’s very apt for the slower pace here in the South.

My daughter, Heather, and others in our family call it No Care. It’s been that way for us for a long time, a safe harbor. You live in a beautiful part of North Carolina, a state with great variety and beauty. As for water skiing, I’ve happily exchanged skis for a beach or rocking chair. Good to have choices.

    Dear Jan,

Your coaster quote had me laughing out loud! Thank you for that.

    Love, Julie

I thought I heard you laughing! You’ve got one of the best out there. Laughter’s good for body and soul. And highly contagious. The quote’s a keeper. So are you.

Great to hear from you, dear Barbara. It was. I’ll write more about it this coming week. Hope you and Fred are doing well in Ohio.

Oh I disagree with that quote too! I love when the whole family gets together! It’s exhausting, but oh so fun! Thankful to have a family that I can feel that way about. 🙂 And thankful you do too! <3
