I Feel Every Now and Then...

Many years ago, Jud and I attended an off-Broadway production of  You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.   To date, the music and characters remain relatable and  likeable. And Charlie Brown, a pushover to some,  is still a loyal,  patient and trusting friend.

As Halloween nears, I remember watching with our kids, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.  While other kids got sacks of candy from trick-or-treating, Charlie Brown got rocks. I read somewhere that fans of this TV special felt so badly for Charlie Brown, they sent candy for Charlie Brown to Charles Schultz, the show’s creator.

Well, there’s a lot to love about Charlie Brown, who keeps trying.  And there’s a lot to learn from Charles Schultz’s Peanuts Gang and Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood. Both help us view tough issues with courage, hope and  encouragement to learn and  do better next time.

So, what’s with the title?  Well, one of my favorite characters is the dog,  Snoopy. He dreams big, but laments commands to sit, beg or roll over. He doesn’t want to be known for “having a bark worse than his bite.”  So he sings, “I feel every now and then,  like I gotta bite someone.”  Hence, the blog’s title.

And that has me wondering what am I or you feeling every now and then?  And what can we do about it? At the moment, it feels like there’s too much biting and barking. Too much snarking, not enough smiling and laughing.

So, let’s look for some laughs, and some good news. It’s out there. So help me find it.  Try these for starters:

“To Norwegians, the Polka is a form of martial arts.” Garrison Keillor

”Those who can’t laugh at themselves, leave the job to others.” Dave Barry"

"My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance.” Erma Bombeck

Well, like I said, they’re starters.  So feel free to add you wit and wisdom.  I need a good laugh.  Knowing Chris, my sister-in-love, she’ll find something funny for us.  As to Halloween, no tricks or rocks, just treats.  Speaking of treats, thanks for staying connected.
