About Moving On

No, I'm not talking about dying, but about moving on from places where we feel stuck. Since several of you responded to the prayer by Harold Bussell in my blog, Unfinished Business, I wanted to refer you to Harold's book, from which it came: Thoughtful Prayers for Serious Believers.

While, it's easy to skip over the preface or introduction to a book, one can miss much by doing so. Like these from the preface of Harold's book: "Isn't it interesting that the disciples never asked Jesus how to walk on water, calm a storm, or multiply bread? They didn't ask him how to pray; rather they asked, 'Teach us to pray.' "

And their request is found in Luke 11:1. It's not so much a how to as a must do. Prayer is a lifeline. And prayer keeps us connected to the God, who sees, hears and knows all. It's a love link between God's heart and ours. Prayer helps us move on.

So, dear friends, don't give up. Although, you may feel stuck in the Saturday between the worst and the best of Easter weekend, choose to hope, anyhow. Trust God with the unknowns, the answers to prayers that never showed up, as far as we know. Like Anne Lamott shared through these words from her husband, "Neal taught me something important on our second date...that learning to say, 'I don't know' is a portal to freedom."

And, with that in mind, I found myself singing an old Gaither tune, some of you may know it. So feel free to sing along.

"Through it all, through it all, I've learned to trust in Jesus, I've learned to trust in God."

So, lets keep learning to trust Jesus with all we don't know. There's a long line of men and women of faith who never gave up. They lived without knowing all the whys, whens and hows of life beause of Who they knew. And that God knew them. Granted, these are tough and confusing times. But, through it all, lets choose to trust Jesus with our knowns, unknowns, them and ourselves.

And remember, sometimes a leap of faith looks more like one small step. So lets inhale hope that energizes, and exhale fear that paralyzes. Faith frees us to move on. Singing helps.

So does chocolate.

Oops!

Pray for me.
