Color Me Purple

Maggie's to blame. Not my granddaughter, my friend Maggie Rowe. I won't get into the specifics but in her last blog, she wrote that her brother-in-law saw purple as the color of hope. Google and read it for yourself. My friend is Maggie Wallem Rowe.( maggierowe.com). Generally, I think of purple as either the color of royalty or the hats and dresses of old ladies. Which is why I avoid wearing purple.

But Maggie and her brother-in-law reminded us that blue and red, blended together become purple. And she, like I, thought of the same word: POLITICS! Parties and states get defined by one color or the other. However, where there is overlap, PURPLE shows up on voting maps in our country.

So, with recent killings, threats, inquiries, storms, ICE raids, along with malfunctioning escalators and teleprompters, is there any hope for us? Well, color me purple. And watch some late night comedy. Yup, like millions of others, I watched Jimmy Kimmel return Tuesday night. He, like Stephen Colbert before him, reminded us that the loss of freedom of speech is no laughing matter.

And so I joined in celebrating that we don't have to agree with everything that is said to affirm the right to say it. With certain exceptions, like yelling FIRE, in a packed theatre, when there is no fire.

So back to purple, the color of hope. Charlie Kirk's wife, Erika, delivered words of hope when she forgave the one who murdered her husband. While Charlie and I didin't agree on a lot of issues, I'm sorry he's dead and died in such a violent way. And I pray we can work at building bridges instead of reinforcing barricades. We need to do a lot more forgiving and a lot less finger pointing.

There's a lot I could add but, maybe I've said more than enough. So, I'll stop Just consider ways to add more purple to our divided families, churches and this country.

Hope heals.

And so does laughter.

I prefer purple to agent orange. Father forgive them for they don't know what they are doing - gee, that's me!

Good to hear from you, my friend Dale. Yes, like the old Spiritual says,'Not my brother, nor my sister but it's me, O Lord, standin' in the need of prayer." And needing to forgive and be forgiven. It's still a marvelous mystery, the forgiving heart of Jesus. For them! And for me.!!

Love you and so glad to claim you as our Momo

Oh, and I'm so grateful you are my daughter-in-love, dear Kristina, and the Mama of the Maggie, who is the source of some of my best stories. Poco is, too. Thanks for taking the time to read this blog and respond. You delivered a big dose of encouragement. Thanks.

Jan, you had me at those first three words - "Maggie's to blame." I had to laugh because for years I've said that the three words I want on my tombstone are "She meant well!" Now I've chosen a future epitaph a bit more spiritual. But you and I do both resonate with "We the Purple" of hope. I long to see the right and the left wings of our American eagle cooperate. And like the body of the eagle, the core is most critical of all. I'm always honored when you share some of my musings - I do the same with your posts!

Well, I may be a lot older than you, but I'm still teachable.. And often you are the teacher. I laughed at "She meant well." I may have to use that one. Praying for God to bless you, your family, blog and the ministry God's called you to, "for such as time as this." You are my dear Norwegian sister.
