Grace and Peace to You
Winds howl, waves pummel the shore, while I listen to Fernando Ortega sing, “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” It’s Sunday. But I’m not at Church. Still music links me to Jesus and all who come to mind as I sing about grace and peace to friends, family, even some foes. Suddenly, my condo feels a lot like Church, perched above the fray, as the ocean struts its stuff.
Nature is nothing to mess with and we’ve been messing around. Climate change is no hoax. Consequences follow greed and exploitation of the world God lovingly created and called,“Good.” And God created a perfect place for animals, plants, trees, flowers, fish, birds, bugs and, especially us, in which to flourish. We are created in God’s image and blessed and charged with tending nature and loving each other.
So, since my church is online, due to power outages in that area, I’m home. A day like today nudges me to be grateful for power to heat water, light lamps, charge my computer and phone, and keep things cold or frozen in the fridge or to bake, heat or zeap in oven, stove or microwave. So many blessings are easily missed. As I write Fernando sings, “Praise God from whom all blessings flow.”
Well, storms are attention grabbers. And so I joined a gazillion people at Ace Hardware buying up flashlights and batteries. Then on to Market Basket to hoard food, like squirrels prepping for winter. So feel to stop by, I’ve got plenty.
Oh, and I haven’t forgotten another story about Ace hardware. But I need to make coffee and heat up a cardamom bun. Yup, got two of those before lockdown.
Meanwhile, Grace and Peace to you, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Storms come and go but Jesus stays to help us weather our storms. So fear not, and sing something. This too shall pass, even if it seems like “Rock bottom has a basement.” Oh, Chad just stopped by. He was surfing those waves.
