Updates from Jud and Jan

Thanking God for Poets. A Note From Jan.

Excited to read some good news in the newspaper. The British-based TS Elliot Foundation bought the  Eastern Point summer home of TS Elliot (Tom, back then). For his first 20 years, TS Elliot returned to summer in Gloucester at The Edgemoor house. When you read some of his poetry, you pick up the influence of this place by the sea and the people who fish these waters.

We need more poets. This morning I read another of Wendell Berry’s treasures. Some lines from The Design of a House follow:

“Winter nights the house sleeps, a dry seedhead in the snow falling and fallen, the white and dark and depth of it, continuing slow impact of silence.                       The  dark rooms hold our heads on pillows, waiting day, through the snow falling and fallen  in the darkness between inconsecutive dreams.  The brain burrows in its earth  and sleeps,          trusting dawn, though the sun’s light is a light without precedent, never proved ahead of its coming, waited for by the law that hope has made it.”

Thank God for poets. That small band of those who listen, watch and wait upon words. So few to say so much.

Thank you Jan for the reminder of the richness of words in poetry. Those words give so much to a person. They open up worlds to me, as does the word in liturgy, the bible, music, and conversation. I am not so much a giver of words as with poets but a receiver of words which I hear or read. I've been thinking I would like to read some poetry this Lenten season. Thank you for the reminder!
God bless you in His Word!
