HOMEcoming! A New Note from Jan. Jud's CaringBridge Journal Entry Five
Jud called today to say, “I’m coming home tomorrow!” That’s right. Tomorrow I’m heading to MGH to whisk him away and bring him HOME!
They’d planned to give him platelets and a blood transfusion today but his counts were too high. That’s right. Too high!
So Jud’s coming home to rest, breathe salt air and eat familiar food, as long as it’s boiled, baked or broiled.
While the house didn’t need to be as clean as required for one who has a bone marrow transplant, I needed to make an inhospitable environment for germs. Lots of creatures feel at home when you don’t touch a place for over a month. So I put aside guilt and hushed my Norwegian genes and asked for help.
Friends and neighbors came like one fine SWAT team! No germs could survive in their wake. June washed rugs, blankets and our bedspread.
My book club brought mums. We can’t have plants or flowers in the house, but we can make the deck look like Fall came to rest awhile.
My neighbor, Beth, hauled my car to get it washed and debugged. Nancy, on the other side of us, wants a grocery list by morning. Love and grace every which way. Wait ‘til Jud sees this place! It’s so clean, he’ll think we moved!
We know this isn’t the end of the story. It’s just an interlude. We’ll be back at MGH in a couple of weeks but for now this feels like a belly full of HOPE. Just when you start planning for a homegoing, God shows up and says,“How ‘bout a HOMEcoming, instead.”
Thank you, Jesus, for this day, for praying family, friends and neighbors, for great medical care, for all the gifts from this family of Yours. We don’t deserve one speck of it but we sure are grateful.

Welcome home, Jud. Enjoy the respite of your lovely place, your sweet wife and home cooking for awhile. We pray that your body and spirit are restored and you're ready for the next round when it comes. Sending lots of love your way..
