MOMENTS. A Note From Jan.
Driving Maggie and Kate to school does me good. Eavesdropping on their conversations or listening to CDs I’d never insert for my pleasure. Yesterday, it was “the grandpa man,” George Beverly Shea singing from an almost 20 year old CD entitled MOMENTS.
It was my Mama’s CD and I inherited it 8 years ago after she headed for heaven. Haven’t played it since I was driving Maggie to daycare 5 years ago. She’d ask for it so we played it often. Maggie loved to sing along, especially with the “come, come, come” part of the “Church in the Wildwood” and with his deep baritone rendition of “This Little Light Of Mine.”
I’ll never forget her response as a three year old to “O Savior Thou Art Mine.” “Bev” Shea sings, “Mine, Mine, Mine, Jesus is Mine.” Maggie piped up from the backseat with, “Momo, you need to talk to him. He’s really selfish. He needs to learn to share.”
After I dropped them off yesterday, I listened to the album’s title song, MOMENTS. “In the happy moments, praise Him. In the difficult moments, seek Him. In the busy moments, bless Him. In the quiet moments, worship Him For in ALL our moments He is there in goodness, in kindness, in love.”
Today came wrapped in kindness… A Mother’s Day card from my forever friend. A white Mandevilla plant from another sweet friend “for your perch by the sea.” Felt like summertime showed up in full bloom. Think I’ll bring it inside so it doesn’t catch cold.
Rushed to pay a property tax bill this morning. Misread it in haste. Instead of owing over $2000, I had a credit of .02. Plus the parking slot I pulled into already had $ in the meter. How can you improve on that! I know, read the fine print, so I don’t need to park to pay something I didn’t owe in the first place.
Today’s May 8th. May 8,1962 Jud asked me to marry him.
Thank you, Jud, for all these years to grow up together, to learn what it means to love someone and to be loved. Lord knows I gave you plenty of reasons to rethink that decision. Your love prepared me for the unthinkable—life without you. “In the happy moments, praise Him. In the difficult moments, seek Him.” and we did. and I do. For, in all our moments, Christ is there “in goodness, in kindness, in love.”

Amen, dear sister! Thinking of you while we celebrate Dale's 50th reunion at Wheaton this week-end and imagining you and Jud as you fell in love at this "other" institution of higher learning! Praying for you this Mother's Day and trusting God will give you more happy moments than you could ever imagine!! Sweet blessings and more prayers on your week as you prepare to share what God has laid on your heart next week-end at Gordon!! Sending so much love, sweet friend!!
And it is in those happy moments we have shared with our loved ones that we find comfort in distress...Amazing to think that Jesus can be MINE and also your 'MINE', and the 'mine' of everyone who seeks Him and loves Him and longs for Him. What a wondrous love! "For in all our moments, Christ is there". Thank you and love you, dearest MamaJan! Xoxoxo
